Continuation of our visit to Pannett Park in Whitby (UK). In this episode, we visit three gardens. 

The Jurassic garden takes us back to times when marine crocodiles and tree ferns inhabited the place which would ultimately become a busy tourist town. 

The wooden sculpture of Polynesian explorer Kupe can´t be missed when you enter the South Seas garden. He looks out over a special place. Ivonne is impressed by the garden's message. 
The themed garden is designed to form a link between Whitby, Captain James Cook (18th C) and the Māori. Ivonne spots Māori symbols in the garden, and a plant that has been widely used since the arrival of Maôri to New Zealand. 

Finally, the floral clock near a busy road brings us back to more recent times.

Our approach

Discutafel podcast brings green audio about gardening, the outdoors and sustainability. These topics are very popular these days. It's not easy to be original and bring relevant content.
It is our intention to add unusual coverages, proper green knowledge and ecological insights. We wish to inspire you, help you to observe, to think things over, and to act accordingly, for the sake of a healthy planet.

This podcast episode is a fine example of the way we want to work. Jurassic geology and plant life, Captain James Cook’s travels across the globe, a little bit about Whitby's history, and Māori culture and plant use ... All experienced on one spot: Pannett Park.
We've come to the conclusion that these things can all be connected, and form an interesting picture together, a picture that tells you more than each topic on itself would do. And we think that’s an exciting experience which we gladly share with you, our listener.

Pannett Park, in the coastal town of Whitby (UK) is not very big. Still, it may be worth your visit, as Ivonne discovers. 
The park is steeply sloped and south facing. This means the area is attractive for a large range of plants and animals. What does wildlife friendly management look like in Pannett Park?
Ivonne has mixed feelings about Whitby Museum, which is also in the park.

In de Jardins d'eau d'Annevoie, in de Belgische Ardennen, heeft water de hoofdrol. De tuinen dateren uit het midden van de 18de eeuw. Slim gebruik van de aanwezige bronnen maakt dat alle waterwerken hier zijn gebaseerd op natuurlijke waterdruk. Het witte kasteel, met de licht gebogen gevel, maakt het plaatje compleet. In this episode, we take a look in the knot garden and we walk alongside the long border. We also dive into some history. 
Which world did Turner inherit when it comes to plant knowledge, medicinal plants and knowledge of the body? And why was his work so important for society? Ivonne also explains the past of that strange hill behind the garden.

Ivonne bezoekt een tentoonstelling over tuindorpen en tuinsteden. Een 19de eeuwse Brit was grondlegger van dit idee rond stedelijke ontwikkeling. 
Dat dit concept juist eind 19de eeuw ontstond, is niet voor niets, zo legt Ivonne uit. Je gaat trouwens ook begrijpen waardoor in dezelfde periode het bekende bordspel Monopoly werd bedacht. Hoe dat zit? Luister!
